Training Overview

It is a well documented concern that First Nations Children and Young People in Out of Home Care are missing out on opportunities that support and encourage their journeys of cultural and community connection, therefore are growing up experiencing a disconnection to purpose and belonging.  This disconnection and misplacement from community early in life is broadly known to be detrimental to the social and emotional well-being of our young people as they grow, develop and navigate the complexities of life as a young First Nations Person having experienced being in the OOHC system.

We understand that a major contributor to this is a lack of knowledge and understanding from Non-Indigenous People who are involved in the caring and decision making environments of Aboriginal Children & Young People in OOHC. Who too often have limited guidance and accessible opportunities to deeply understand and develop the knowledge required to create culturally empowering environments that provide the specific care, guidance, nurturing and support required to establish the foundations, grounding and connections our young people need to thrive in life.

This training has been developed through a culturally integrated and trauma informed lens and has been carefully designed to provide tailored capacity building opportunities that will support the learner to be better equipped with the deeper level knowledge required to confidently navigate the complexities and meet the needs associated with raising Aboriginal Children & Young People in a way that will see them connected not disconnected, proud not shame and empowered not disempowered

This bespoke training is both practical, providing tangible learnings that can be adapted into the home and caring approach; and Informative,  through the deep and diverse Cultural Intelligence insights it provides. Moving well and truly beyond the standard "tick the box" trainings we so often see.

This training exists to support those that are involved in caring for our children to truly embody Cultural Safety and Awareness. To develop a deep understanding and willingness towards embracing First Nations qualities, values and ways of being in the home and caring approach. To be well informed and aware of the intergenerational cycles of disadvantage and injustice committed against our people. And to be committed to raising our children in strength based and culturally empowering ways.
